04.21.08 CHSAA Diocese of Brooklyn Division A Baseball - McClancy @
Archbishop Molloy - Stanner Field, Molloy High School
Monsignor
Mc Clancy Crusaders’ Stephen Cotov (#18) lost
a tough one at Stanner Field, on April 21, 2008. Despite
registering eight strike outs in six innings and giving up only
one earned run, he lost the baseball game 3 to 2.
The defense did not do him justice on the
other two runs that
Archbishop Molloy High School scored. The top seeded
McClancy, in the
Catholic High Schools Athletic Association (CHSAA) Baseball
League Brooklyn "A" Division, mishandled grounders at
short and at 2nd that put runners in scoring position
for the Stanners’ catcher,
Michael Weber, to single-in two RBIs
in the bottom fourth. Weber finished the day with three singles.
However,
Conan Leon (#12) pitched a better game, as he
stroke-out six batters in five innings. He held Coach Nick Melito’s Crusaders stranded in scoring positions in the first,
the fourth and the fifth innings.
Coach Jack Curran is glad of the win, particularly that his team
was hitting the ball on the nose while facing a pitcher of the
caliber of Cotov, but was more elated that Leon, his starting
pitcher, did a pretty good job holding the Crusaders to one
earned run.
However, the very confident Melito knew that his team would
eventually come from behind, but they fell short of the prize,
as they only scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning for
the loss.
