05.24.08 Xavier vs. St. Francis 2008 CHSAA 2008 VARSITY INTERSECTIONAL QUALIFYING Baseball GAMES -St. John's University
Xavier’s Coach Rich Duffell hopes that his Knights
will play better baseball against the reigning CHSAA champions,
St. Francis Prep., on Sunday, after his defense crumbled in the
second inning of game one.
During the second inning, the Terriers scored five
times, sending nine batters at the plate. Everything that could
have gone wrong for the Knights went wrong, including a
catcher’s interference. Although the Terriers had four hits,
only one went in the outfield, a RBI line drive, the opposite
way by righty third baseman, Sebastian Grazziani (#20) who also
had a RBI double in fourth inning.
Nick Copelli (#2) and Augusto Solares (#45) who, both,
had infield hits in the first inning, hit for extra bases in the
fourth. Hitting seventh and eighth in the line-up, respectively,
Copelli drove a run with his double, then Solares followed with
a three-bagger to drive in two runs. In the sixth inning,
Solares also doubled over the centerfielder's head in the 6th
inning.
Coach Brother Robert Kent of St. Francis let his
righty
starter, A.J. Boardman, endure the distance. Broadman registered
eight strike outs in the win.
