05.25.08 Xaverian @ Moore Catholic - 2008 CHSAA Intersectional Seeding Game at Richmond County Baseball Club
Unfortunately, at this time, I am unable to name the players on
Moore who
contributed their valiant efforts in Sunday's game against
Xaverian at Richmond County Baseball Club Field, Staten Island. However, I will
fill in their names, once I have the names. If I may apologize to
Coach Nick of Moore Catholic for any error on your name and that
of your players, for as I was rushing to set up before the game
started, I failed to write your players name. Please excuse the
inconvenience and disrespect.
Thank you to Pat Wolf for providing
the Moore's roster to enable corrections.
Although that both Coaches,
Denis Canale and
Nick
Doscher entered the
game with the sole purpose of securing seeding supremacy, both
coaches finished the game with the thought of their
tough-going-forward challenges of the CHSAA Varsity "A"
play-offs, which start on Wednesday, May 28, 2008.
Both coaches know that they may not face each other, anymore,
this year, however, they anticipate a match between the two old
rivals will be a repeat of today's event, the determination of
champions and of runner-up.
So, right off the top of the first inning, Canale's Clippers
jumped on Moore's pitching with a blast from the Clippers
lead-off batter,
Alex Maldonado (#51), who crushed the second
pitch of the game over the center field wall for a 400 foot solo home
run. After giving up the homer,
Eddie
Medina (#11)
settled down to retire the
next three batters.
Although he struggled in the top
of the second inning, Medina managed
to shut the Clippers down, leaving bases loaded without any
damage being done, to find himself chased off the mound,
as
Joe Jacobson (12) took over
to begin the
third
inning.
In the third inning,
Xaverian scored twice on a lead-off walk to short
stop John Fugarile (#5) and consecutive hits to right fielder
Anthony Hajjar (#22), first baseman Matt Troisi (#6) and third
baseman Roberto Duran (#11) that left Moore dangling at the edge
of destruction. However, Coach Doscher made the move bringing in
James Andersen (#16).
With no one out and runners at the corners,
Andersen
did an
exceptional job by having the red-hot-hitting designated hitter,
lefty Joseph Cespuglio (#25), fly out to right field, catcher
John Mendez (#19) to pop up to second and stroke out Paul Perez
(#12) to end the inning without giving up a run.
Moore made its mark punishing Xaverian starter, James Lewis
(#9), by answering with two runs of their own in the bottom
third inning, as they took advantage of a lead-off single by
Mike Wolf (#5)
who later scored on a RBI ground-out by
Eddie
Medina,
which advance
Carmine Pellechia
(#7) to third who reach first after he was hit by a
pitch.
Pellechia
later stole home on Lewis. Finally, Coach
Canale summoned
Dominick Scavelli (#24) to retire the side on
five pitches, as Moore left men stranded in the corners.
In the fourth inning, Xaverian added an insurance run on a
lead-off walk to A.J. Passione (#30) who later scored on Hajjar’s
4-3 RBI-ground-out.
Justin Giammarino (#46) had the save in a rare relief
appearance.
