08.04.09 Maryland Bombers vs. Brooklyn
Bonnie Seals - #3 Nicholas Candelario hit a solo home run over
the left center field fence in the top of the 4th inning, as the
six-footer, big-wonder of an eleven year old boy, helped carry
his team to the championship game against the Connecticut
Bombers. Candelario missed another home run that hit the very
top of the right center field fence, that would have been the
winning run in the 5th inning, that would have done it for the
Maryland Bombers which was the team to beat.
Maryland teams have won two out of three American Amateur
Baseball Congress 11 Year Old Gil Hodges World Series
since www.amamat.com began to webcast these events in 2006. The
Maryland Bombers had already defeated the Brooklyn Bonnie Seals
on August 1st, the first time the two teams meet in the
tournament, by a score of 3-2. Maryland was down 2-o to win it
at the bottom of the 7th inning on an RBI single by Ryan Murrey.
Since then, Maryland went undefeated until they faced the
Connecticut Bombers, yesterday, right on this same baseball
field at Monsignor Sclafani of the Our Lady of Grace Gravesend
Athletic Association (OLGAA) or Grace of Brooklyn, the gracious
host of the tournament for the last 10 years. Grace is
celebrating its 50th Anniversary, this year.
The game ended when speedy, #18 Kyana Rodriguez, pinch ran for
#42 Greg Poleon who got on base with a single between short and
third. She crossed home plate in the bottom of the 6th inning on
an RBI double by #4 John Rice and it was exhilaration.
The 2009 Brooklyn Bonnie Seals will make it to the championship
game for two straight years.
Please notice there is no 1st inning.
