09.26.09 Holy Cross vs. Xaverian -Clippers of Xaverian Defeated the Knights of Holy Cross in 1st Game of 2009 CHSAA Freshman Football Opener at Aviator.
Holly Cross Rookie Head Coach Paul Jennings, was proud to let me know that he just graduated college.
On his debut as head coach of the Holy Cross Freshman Football team, he suffered his first loss at the hands of Head Coach Massimo Penta's Clippers of Xaverian at the Aviator Sports Complex in Brooklyn.
Jennings's freshman team drew first blood in the first quarter on a 5 yards rush touch down by #15, Kelvin Almestica, but  Holy Cross missed the 2-point conversion. However, the knights defense shut the Clippers'
 
  offence in the first quarter.
The Clippers answered 2 1/2 minutes into the 2nd quarter on a 10 yards rush TD by #1, Kai Bryant.  Soon after, Clipper Quarter Back, #5, Gregory McGoldwick, connected with #14, Jonathan Badyna, for the extra 2 points to put the Clippers ahead 8-6.
The Clippers increased their lead with 3:06 remaining in the quarter on a 20 yard interception by #44 Julien Garcia-Ruiz. Garcia-Ruiz scored another other TD when McGoldwick  connected with him in the 4th quarter from 15 yards. But, #43, Mark Mardem, made it interesting, as the pesky Knights refused to go down.
With the ball on the 3 yards marker, Almestica handed Mardem the to football on the Knights' end zone, as Mardem sprinted all the way to score the Knights' 2nd TD of the game.
The Knights failed to take advantage of a crucial turnover by the Clippers who went on to win the game by a score of 22-14.
